5 lessons learned as a new dad

1. My son is concealing 2 loaded weapons in his diaper. I have been hit by both
2. Sleep, eat, burp, change (beware of #1), eat, burp, sleep…repeat as necessary.
3. Changing diapers is all about the speed at which you can take the clothes off, then diaper, wipe, clean, new diaper, then clothes. I believe, as a man, I am not able to accomplish this as it takes me 2-3 minutes to change...

Final 6 days
Sitting here realizing this is our final quite weekend. Soon there will be crying, laughing, pooping, burping, puking, late nights, early mornings, no sleep, crankiness, sickness, laughter, swaddling, cuddling, throw-ups, feedings, pee, and more poop filled diapers.

Baby Update - Week 34 1/2
Had ultrasound today to see if the placenta had moved, unfortunately it hadn’t. Looks like a c-section for Amy, which she is not too thrilled about. Good news is the baby is healthy. Saw the heart, kidneys, brain, and confirmed that he has the tools to be a boy. Was really quite exciting to see a little human in there ready to welcome the real world.

Christmas Week
Dec 19th - Celebrated Xmas with Amy’s brothers, Jon and Ben, and their families. It was a great time. Ate and drank way too much…

33 Weeks
40-33=7 weeks left until due date. We have our final ultrasound Monday December 28th. This ultrasound will tell us if Amy will be having the baby naturally or C-section. I’ll try to secure some final pics and post.

Guaranteed to be a great game. Cold weather, nationally televised, and Hawkeye college students have a day to tailgate. Kinnick stadium will be rocking tonight and showing the country what Hawkeye land is all about.
Note: I was, of course, studying at the library during my time at Iowa when football season was progressing through the year.

20 week ultrasound
This morning we had the 20 week ultrasound. There was no question between Amy and I that we would find out the sex of the baby.
Monday Sept 21st
- Amy receives a phone call confirming her appointment. The administrative assistant/nurse, whatever, makes it a point to explain to Amy that due to the H1N1 virus dilemma, no one will be allowed back to see the ultrasound. I literally feel the vein...

Baby - Week 19
Bigger and Bigger she gets. I asked for a photo shoot, but that wasn’t happening. We are in the 19th week. Next week, Sept 15th, Amy is going in for a consultation with a new doctor. Long story short, she doesn’t like the other medical group…something about the nurses being a little rude…

Baby Update
Well, we are 18 weeks into the pregnancy. Seems like everyday Amy’s stomach is growing in size. She can feel the baby moving around and kicking, though I have yet to feel anything and Taylor says she has felt it. 2nd Grade
Summer is over and tomorrow Taylor starts 2nd grade. She said she is nervous, which is to be expected. She found out her 2nd grade teacher a few weeks ago..maybe it was last week…her name is Ms. Everson. Clothes are picked out, finger and toe nails are painted, and the new backpack with all the new school supplies are ready….

Amy and Taylor have been in North Carolina visiting family since Thursday. They return tomorrow and I can’t wait to see all 3….remember, there’s a baby on the way.
Baby due date is February 5th and I am stoked to find out the sex in about 4 weeks. Last Dr. appointment went well and Taylor was able to hear the heart again. She is so excited to become a sister.
